G'day guys, here are some tips for growing chard aka silver beet. Plant in a good well composted fertile soil, water often during dry spells in the summer. Cut the plants back when they are about 1 foot high. If they become overgrown, they can lose their flavour. You can start harvesting when the plants are 6 to 8 inches tall. Cut off the outer leaves 3cm above the ground. If you harvest the leaves carefully, new leaves will grow and provide another harvest. You can cook it like spinach or eat it raw.
